The French quartet Quatuor Diotima returns to Milton Court for a performance featuring music by visionaries Ludwig van Beethoven and György Ligeti. Renowned for their mastery of 20th and 21st-century works alongside revelatory interpretations of Romantic repertoire, the ensemble explores pieces that pushed the boundaries of the string quartet medium in their respective eras. The programme includes Beethoven’s final quartet with its complex Grosse Fugue and Ligeti’s String Quartet No. 2, a work that redefined string textures and sonorities upon its debut in 1968.
