On Friday the 2nd of October 2026, composer and conductor Joe Hisaishi will lead a selection of his highly acclaimed film music! This includes the music he created for the magical films of Studio Ghibli, such as Spirited Away, Ponyo, and Howl’s Moving Castle by legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, complete with film clips shown on the big screen. In addition, Joe Hisaishi will conduct a selection from his scores for the celebrated films of top director Takeshi Kitano, including Hana-bi (Fireworks) and Kids Return, and much more. This concert offers a rare opportunity to see and hear Joe Hisaishi at work as both conductor and pianist. That Hisaishi himself will be conducting the Concertgebouworkest is already a first, and it also offers a unique chance to hear his enchanting film music live, accompanied by visuals from Studio Ghibli.
