A nostalgic orchestral night.
Part of Creative Director Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Rituals festival, One Morning Turns Into an Eternity is an operatic exploration of the life cycle. Directed by Peter Sellars, the journey connects Schoenberg’s Erwartung—a hallucinatory search for a lover—with the 'Farewell' from Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. Leonard Bernstein described the work as a synonym for eternity, featuring tender yet transcendent orchestration exploring seasons, loss, and rebirth. The program also includes Webern’s concise five-minute masterpiece, which Schoenberg praised for expressing a novel in a single gesture.
