A nostalgic, raw big band night.
The Mingus Big Band performs the music of legendary American composer and bassist Charles Mingus. Established by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble features new arrangements of Mingus compositions, fulfilling his desire for a larger band format. The group's structure promotes creative exploration and artistic expression, reminiscent of Mingus's own Jazz Workshop. Comprised of a rotating cast of New York's finest musicians, the band is known for its spontaneity and creativity, earning multiple Grammy nominations and a win in 2011. This performance is part of the Mingus Mondays residency.
