David Ryan Adams is an American alternative country singer-songwriter, musician and producer who has been a member of Whiskeytown and The Cardinals. Known for his prolific output and artistic evolution, Adams began his career in North Carolina with local bands before forming Whiskeytown, which helped define the alt-country genre. Since launching his solo career in 2000 with the acclaimed album Heartbreaker, he has released numerous LPs that span acoustic intimacy and full-band rock. His live performances are noted for their intensity and conviction, often featuring personal storytelling and stylistic experimentation that ranges from solo piano to high-energy rock sets.
