Goth-glam rising star Stella Rose (daughter of Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan) returns to Bucharest this winter – Saturday, January 31 at Control Club, presented by Liveland. Stella Rose is excited to reveal her new EP, Hollybaby, out now via KRO Records. The New York dark pop artist’s latest body of work also comes alongside an official music video for Beautiful Twentysomethings, which was self-directed by Stella Rose. Speaking of the new EP, Stella Rose says: “The best kept secret between after hour bars. People that you’ve been before, fueling superstitions. The sedation in seduction, the day the music died.” Following her acclaimed 2023 debut Eyes of Glass, Stella Rose’s Hollybaby EP – created with producer Yves Rothman – dives deeper into her dark, poetic world with gritty soundscapes and introspective themes. The title track sets an ominous tone with brooding guitars and haunting vocals, followed by the fiery imagery of MS.45. Beautiful Twentysomethings paints a portrait of youth and beauty amid chaos, while Drugstore Romeo closes the EP with soaring melodies and reflections on NYC drug addiction. Written during a sweltering LA heatwave, the EP emerged from Stella Rose’s move from New York and her shift to a more urgent writing style. The intense environment shaped its visceral feel, with final touches completed back in New York – resulting in her loudest, rawest and arguably most entrancing material to date. Stella Rose Gahan now finds herself firmly among the buzzy circles of New York’s underground scene and she is also making a serious footprint in the fashion world, gracing the covers of publications such as POP, W Mag and Lampoon Magazine. In addition to earning praise for her work from outlets including Rolling Stone UK, Brooklyn Vegan, Paper, Clash, CREEM, and NME, she’s been embraced by like-minded artists, appearing in Hedi Slimane’s Dairies, the Buffalo Hotel Chelsea Issue 16 photographed by Richard Kern, and walking in the Enfants Riches Déprimés show during Paris Fashion Week. Opening act is Tobă Moarte - an eclectic duo that goes for lo-fi/noise-rock/darkwave that started in 2022 in an art workshop in Bucharest, by Miruna Radovici and Vlad Stoica. With a scene thirsty for bands and acts that are exploring a wide variety of genres, while also creating their own identity within it, Tobă Moarte is more than a refreshing and promising act that will make a lasting impression and fill in a lot of the gaps just through their sheer performance.
