An underground free jazz night.
Red Hook Records celebrates its fifth anniversary with a curated showcase of label artists and collaborators. The evening features two distinct sets of improvisational and electronic music. Set 1 features saxophonist Caroline Davis, drummer Qasim Naqvi, and guitarist Grey Mcmurray. Davis is a Guggenheim Fellow known for her expressive alto work, while Naqvi (of Dawn of Midi) bridges modular synthesis and percussion. Mcmurray is a versatile guitarist who has worked with artists ranging from Gil Scott-Heron to John Cale. Set 2 brings together pianist Jason Moran, electronic musician BlankFor.ms (Tyler Gilmore), and drummer Marcus Gilmore. Moran is a MacArthur Fellow and a leading voice in contemporary jazz. BlankFor.ms specializes in textural electronics and degraded analog tape, and Marcus Gilmore is a multi-Grammy winning drummer who has performed with jazz legends and contemporary innovators alike.
