Unpolished II
The idea that music should be comforting, sound beautiful, and make people feel good is certainly not of all times. Take fifty years ago. Whether it was contemporary music, pop or jazz, musicians and composers pushed the boundaries and deviated from the beaten track. Musical styles and mentalities began to influence each other. It was a great time of experimentation and trying new things. How lucky we are to have had the golden generation in the Netherlands with Louis Andriessen, Willem Breuker, Misha Mengelberg, and Han Bennink. They wanted music to be raw, physical, disruptive, exciting, intellectual and groundbreaking. Unpolished II revolves around Peter van Bergen’s Factor Series, in which written material transcends seamlessly into improvisation. Unpredictability all around, with input from the audience.
