Metal fans, take note! On Thursday, September 12, headliners Atheist and Origin will take the stage at P60 Amstelveen to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Atheist’s legendary album Piece of Time. Joining them are Infested Angel, Death Rattle, and Gorgatron—a heavy lineup that promises an unforgettable night. Don’t miss it! About Atheist ATHEIST is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of technical death metal, alongside bands like DEATH and later CYNIC. Emerging in the late '80s from Florida’s thriving metal scene, they released the groundbreaking debut Piece of Time in 1988. Known for their exceptional musicianship, complex compositions, and raw intensity, Atheist toured with major acts like TESTAMENT and MORBID ANGEL. In 1991, tragedy struck when bassist Roger Patterson died in a car accident. Despite the loss, Atheist continued with bassist Tony Choy (ex-CYNIC), releasing the acclaimed Unquestionable Presence, followed by Elements in 1993. After a long break, they returned in 2010 with Jupiter, and in 2019 found new momentum with a fresh lineup. Since then, they’ve toured globally with bands like SUFFOCATION and CYNIC. In 2023, Nuclear Blast reissued their full catalog, and the band is currently working on new material to reaffirm their legendary status. About Origin Tech-death titans Origin are celebrating their 25th anniversary with the release of Chaosmos. Known for their ferocious intensity, technical mastery, and distinctive style, the band once again delivers a relentless and complex album. With standout tracks like “Ecophagy,” “Panoptical,” and “Heat Death,” Origin proves they still belong at the forefront of the genre. Their music is powerful, chaotic, and layered, with every band member playing a key role. Thematically, Chaosmos dives deep into dark and philosophical territory, exploring humanity’s insignificance in the face of the vast universe. Vocalist Jason Keyser tackles themes like overconsumption, artificial intelligence, and the end of existence. Despite challenges such as the pandemic, the band remained focused and determined. The result is an uncompromising album that both honors their roots and pushes their sound forward. Chaosmos shows that Origin is far from done.
