The Mystery Lights begon toen vrienden Mike Brandon en Luis Alfonso Solano verenigd door hun liefde voor psych garage rock, punk en skateboarden, besloten om hun eigen onconventionele rock-'n-roll te gaan maken. In 2012 verhuisden ze naar New York, waar ze hun line-up compleet maakten met drie gelijkgestemde individuen. Met een liveshow die bekend staat om zijn viscerale energie en meedogenloze aanval, waarbij er weinig tot geen pauze is tussen de nummers, speelden ze in talloze NYC-podia en DIY-locaties, waardoor ze al snel een fervente lokale aanhang opbouwden. Hun populariteit trok de aandacht van Daptone Records, die hen in 2015 contracteerde voor hun rocklabel Wick Records. Sindsdien heeft The Mystery Lights een reeks albums uitgebracht. Onlangs brachten ze een nieuwe 45 uit op het label van King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, PDOOM: “Kids of Today” b/w “Wish You Unwell”. De A-kant begint met een felle proto-metalaanval gedoseerd met zware psychedelica, terwijl de B-kant een meer schaduwrijke, soulvolle ballad brengt over liefdesverdriet en zwarte magie.
