Sonic Acts Biennial 2026 Heart Rests Twice Concert 4 at murmur Amsterdam
An underground, slow-burn avant garde night.
Heart Rests Twice is a concert series taking place across five Thursday nights at murmur as part of Sonic Acts Biennial 2026, Melted for Love. This edition explores sound, code, and archival fragments, asking how so-called intelligence is understood, weaponised, and embedded in everyday life. The artists probe hidden networks and infrastructure, opening speculative techno-futures and alternative sonic worlds. Writer and researcher Flavia Dzodan presents a live listening session around Transatlantic Drift – an algorithmic sound work on migration, absence, and the impossibility of return. Continuous shifting tones trace an Atlantic crossing, fed by live weather data, as the audience witnesses the code unfold in real time, sonifying displacement without closure. Sondi presents a newly commissioned audiovisual performance, Non-User Friendly, on the ecological, political, and cultural realities of AI, with a soundtrack by Kween. In the interactive work, human and machine confront each other, exposing extractive logics and challenging the fantasy of neutrality. Mexican sound artist Leslie García reworks the Sun Ra / El Saturn tape archive – over 600 recordings by the Afrofuturist composer – by focusing on glitches, interruptions, and atemporal residues. Using spectral analysis, synthesis, and AI, she transforms these traces into restless, time-bending sound worlds, opening portals to Sun Ra’s other planes of there beyond dominant perspectives. Across Heart Rests Twice, artists explore ideas of home, place, and belonging through attentive, shared listening. In murmur’s surround sound space in Amsterdam Noord, each concert is followed by a Q&A, creating space for reflection and conversation. The Sonic Acts Biennial 2026 takes place from 5 February to 29 March 2026 in Amsterdam, with 80 events across 20 venues, featuring work by 200+ artists. This large-scale arts manifestation includes concerts, listening sessions, a symposium, film screenings, exhibitions, masterclasses, workshops, and site-specific projects.
