Cory Hanson is known by many as the frontman of the adventurous rock collective Wand, but solo he lets a different, more intimate and at the same time wilder sound be heard. From Los Angeles, since his debut The Unborn Capitalist from Limbo (2016), he has been steadily building an oeuvre that balances between dreamy folk, buzzing guitar storms and an almost cinematic sensibility. With albums like Pale Horse Rider (2021) and Western Cum (2023), he explores the extremes of Americana and psychedelic rock—sometimes whispering softly, sometimes sharp and exuberant. His latest album I Love People (2025) brings those worlds together in a timeless guise: warm melodies and rich arrangements reminiscent of the singer-songwriters of the seventies, but filtered through Hanson's idiosyncratic view of the present. Surrounded by his regular band members—with whom he also made Vertigo (2024)—he finds a sound that is as layered as it is direct: classic and modern at the same time, melancholic and playful, sometimes absurd but always to the point. Live, Hanson translates this into an experience that is as relaxed as it is intense. His voice scratches and floats, his guitar lines meander like dust clouds through an open landscape, and his band fills the space with a warmth that can feel both comforting and alienating. Cory Hanson is a storyteller who makes small details big, and big feelings small, and who with each song opens a new perspective on how we can listen to music—and perhaps also to ourselves.
