Dutch Student Orchestra 2026
Talent, ambition and a great love for music: that is what connects the Dutch Student Orchestra and violinist Noa Wildschut. In this concert, the orchestra shares the stage with the young super talent Noa Wildschut, who performs Prokofiev's Second Violin Concerto together with the orchestra. As the main work, the Netherlands Student Orchestra will perform two suites, based on the most ambitious and grand orchestral work by Maurice Ravel, Daphnis et Chloé. In addition, the orchestra presents the world premiere of the latest composition by composer and trombonist Arjan Linker. This year's theme of the Netherlands Student Orchestra 2026 is 'Untamed' **The Netherlands Student Orchestra & Noa Wildschut** "Her approach to the violin is more lyrical than demonstrative, but that made the performance fluid and sparkling," writes The Times about Noa Wildschut. The collaboration with the Netherlands Student Orchestra feels natural: young musicians who are connected by their shared love for music and the pursuit of a high level. Noa Wildschut is a rising star whose passion for music resonates in every detail of her playing. The Netherlands Student Orchestra, although largely consisting of non-professional musicians, plays at an impressive level thanks to their dedication and involvement. The interplay of Noa Wildschut with the Netherlands Student Orchestra – young musicians who put their passion into music – makes this concert a special experience full of musicality, expression and shared love for music. **Ravel, Prokofiev & Linker** Prokofiev's Second Violin Concerto marks a turning point in his life and work. After years in Paris and the United States, he returned to the Soviet Union, where he had to unite his own style with the demands of Soviet realism. The concerto unites lyricism and virtuosity and points forward to his later ballet music, such as Romeo and Juliet. Ravel composed Daphnis et Chloé for the Ballets Russes, inspired by an ancient Greek love story. The ballet tells how two growing children fall in love and are saved from danger by the god Pan. Ravel's music unites timbre, lyricism and rhythm, bringing the drama and poetic atmosphere of the story to life. Arjan Linker wrote a new composition for the NSO, inspired by the theme of untamed. During his studies, he became fascinated by Khayal, the classical music of North India, and immersed himself intensively in this tradition. Indian music has been an important part of Linker's musical language ever since: he incorporates raga into Western compositions and is the first trombonist to play Indian classical recitals
