Her work explores the intersections of jazz, blues, theater, baroque, and folkloric music through a lens of deep storytelling. A winner of the Thelonious Monk competition and recipient of three consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album, her repertoire unearths forgotten songs and focuses on strong narratives with unexpected twists. Her recent accolades include a MacArthur fellowship and the Doris Duke Artist Award. Her latest projects on Nonesuch Records, Ghost Song and Mélusine, showcase her eclectic range, with performances in French, Occitan, English, and Haitian Kreyòl.
