A Tribute to John Coltrane, Kenny Garrett and the Black Music Revolution by Gilad Atzmon Quartet at Theatre of the NO Athens

A powerful tribute to John Coltrane and Kenny Garrett comes to life at Theatre of the No on Saturday, April 18 at 21:30, as three generations of leading Athens jazz musicians unite to honor the American Black Music Revolution. Athens’ vibrant jazz scene takes center stage in a one-night event celebrating a musical legacy rooted in freedom, expression, and the pursuit of authenticity. The evening will be presented by the Gilad Atzmon Quartet, led by internationally acclaimed saxophonist Gilad Atzmon, known for his deeply expressive interpretations and his unique blend of jazz, blues, and traditional music. Alongside him, Yiorgos Georgiadis provides a solid and expressive foundation on bass, while his experience and teaching strengthen the continuity of Greek jazz. The program is completed by rising talents: guitarist Jim Kassavetis, recognized for his inventive technique and dynamic improvisations, and drummer Henry Onuchucks, known for his explosive energy and rhythmic sensitivity. Together, the quartet creates a cross-generational dialogue between the past and present of jazz, inviting the audience to experience music not just as sound but as a living expression of identity, freedom, and creativity.
