‘De openingsklanken van de _Matthäus Passion_, hoorde ik ze ooit zo mooi? De lijdensweg van Jezus voltrekt zich in opperste schoonheid’. Zo schreef Auke Kok in het Parool na de uitvoering in 2022 van de _Matthäus_ door Cappella Amsterdam en Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw in het Muziekgebouw, toen ook onder leiding van Daniel Reuss. In 2026 is er opnieuw de kans om Bachs grote meesterwerk in deze gouden bezetting te beleven. De fascinatie van Nederland met de _Matthäus Passion_ van Johann Sebastian Bach is een internationaal fenomeen. Nergens ter wereld wordt deze passie in de aanloop naar Pasen zo vaak uitgevoerd als in Nederland. Deze uitvoering door het Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw en Cappella Amsterdam behoort tot de beste.
