Peter Somuah Live at De Doelen Rotterdam
A raw jazz night.
Walking Distance is a sonic journey that bridges cultures, genres, and everyday life. Blending post-bop jazz with Arab melodies, Latin grooves, blues, funk, and the rhythms of Ghanaian music, trumpeter Peter Somuah celebrates the deep connections between seemingly different worlds. Inspired by walking through city streets and observing the rhythm of daily life, the music reflects a universal pulse that brings us closer together. Peter Somuah is known for his warm, melancholic trumpet sound and infectious sense of groove, shaped by both jazz legends like Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Roy Hargrove, and his West African musical roots. His compositions move effortlessly between jazz, funk, soul, and traditional Ghanaian music, subtly enriched with electronic elements. An award-winning artist, Somuah received the Erasmus Jazz Award in 2021 and the Edison Jazz Award in 2022 for his debut album Outer Space. He has performed at major international stages including North Sea Jazz, Jazzbaltica, and Blue Note Beijing and Shanghai, and collaborated with the WDR Big Band in 2024. With Walking Distance, Somuah invites listeners to feel grounded, uplifted, and connected through sound.
