Maemo is the music project of Swiss-Moroccan singer Malika Alaoui, who now lives in Berlin. Maemo’s songs are written in French, Creole, Moroccan Arabic (Darija), and invented languages. The music is deeply rooted in the sounds of North and West Africa, Caribbean rhythms, blues, and jazz. European influences such as the accordion, Alpine music, circus poetry, French chanson, and Eastern European Gypsy sounds also flow into the music.
