Giuseppe Tartini en Pietro Locatelli worden beschouwd als de grondleggers van moderne vioolvirtuositeit. Locatelli’s _Concerto Grosso_ _in c_ combineert elegantie met sprankelende solo’s voor het orkest, terwijl Tartini’s beroemde _Duivelstriller-sonate_ zijn inspiratie vond in een droom waarin de duivel zelf viool speelde. Het programma opent met Bartóks _Divertimento_ voor strijkorkest, een dynamisch werk doordrenkt met volksmuziekinvloeden. Tot slot brengt Amsterdam Sinfonietta, samen met Ray Chen, Piazzolla’s _Vier jaargetijden van Buenos Aires_ in een bewerking van Leonid Desyatnikov, waarin Vivaldi’s eerdere compositie subtiel weerklinkt.
