A symphony of colors and sounds, that is how the new music of saxophonist Matthias Van den Brande appears. For his recent album _Fields of Color_ he immersed himself in the life and art of American painter Mark Rothko. Despite his own colorblindness, Van den Brande was at a very young age when he became fascinated by Rothko’s abstract color fields. Like his own music, they express emotion, which is a huge source of inspiration for the saxophonist from Belgium. Mutual friendship and a strong musical connection form the basis of the Matthias Van den Brande Trio. Saxophonist Matthias Van den Brande has lived in many different places, from his native Belgium to the United States. His melodic compositions are rooted in jazz tradition. At the same time, his trio sounds contemporary and accessible. For this project he expanded his trio with trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart. The album Fields of Color appeared earlier this year on Fresh Sound Records.
