Spooky-J presents his hybrid drums and electronic solo set preceded by 2 solo drum performances from Tristan Renfrow and Michelle Samba. This will be followed by a triple drum mega drum off from all drummers. Featured instrument: Drums Spooky-J is the alias of drummer and producer Jacob Maskell-Key. For this show he premiers his explorations into solo drumming and effects processing. After years in Amsterdam’s improvised music scene, Jacob began experimenting with live effects manipulation and triggers, weaving intense, sweat-ready-doom-dance soundscapes. He’s also the founder and drummer of the Uganda-based percussion group Nihiloxica (Nyege Nyege, Crammed Discs) and the creator of the label Spooky Shit, which showcases his more dance-oriented music. Michelle Samba is living a life of transformation, shifting fluidly between drumming, singing, producing, painting, writing, photographing and performance art, scaping contemporary impressionism mood from her personal history. After years of touring as a drummer and bass player, working on duo projects, and composing for theatre, film and games, she is growing into a solo artist, with radical projects in the making. Samba worked with Marina Abramović Institute, Claudia de Breij, Armada, Rick Astley, Robin S, Dope DOD, Orjan Nilsen, Ursula Rucker, National Opera, and many more. Mega Drum-Off Finale – The night will conclude with an all-out, triple-drum MEGA DRUM-OFF, an explosive rhythmic collaboration between all three drummers. Expect chaos, groove, and meaningful answers to human suffering.
