Jazz Thursdays w/ the Biggles Big Band & special guest Oscar Rodenburg
Jazz lovers, unite. Join us every Thursday for a free live jazz session in our lobby. Grab a drink, take a seat, and unwind from a hard day’s work during Jazz Thursdays at Werkplaats. Each edition, we welcome fabulous jazz musicians. Whether it’s the renowned Amsterdam Jazz Trio (Jochem Braat on piano, Tijn Jans on drums, and Adrie Braat on double bass), intimate duos, or special guests ranging from saxophonists to jazz singers and vibraphonists – expect an evening filled with top-tier jazz. For this edition Adrie Braat from the fabulous Amsterdam Jazz Trio invited an extended number of guests, being a full-sized acoustic band. Biggles Big Band Amsterdam are a jazz orchestra from The Netherlands conducted by Adrie Braat (musician of the Dutch Swing College Band). Biggles play music from the great swing era, recreating the magical sounds of Count Basie, Quincy Jones, John Clayton, Terry Gibbsand Frank Sinatra. The band is based in Amsterdam and performed every Monday night at the famous Casablanca Café, located right in the heart of Amsterdam. Biggles appear in Netherlands as well as abroad. For this concert they have just returned from a mini-tour to Paris and are preparing for their next tour in Thailand and Cambodia. Thanks to the spontaneity of the musicians, their energy floats off the stage to mix with the audience. Wherever Biggles performs they get a tremendous response from the audience, not a single concert is without clapping, dancing or stamping feet! The band bring along their integrated string quartet ‘Strings unlimited’ and singer Oscar Rodenburg. Oscar studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. “When I discovered singers like Dean Martin, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, I also became fascinated with jazz. Later I moved to Haarlem to pursue my passion at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. There I was taught by professionals and came into contact with an enormous number of fellow students from all over the world. Nowadays I conduct the Ramses Shaffy Choir. Hopefully I can share my passion and enthusiasm with you!”
