PROTEST AS COUNTERPOWER We plan on starting the year with continuity by reflecting on what it takes to keep protesting going in the Netherlands. A mixed community night, including a panel discussion with local organisers, lawyers, and researchers on protest as counterpower. 18:30 doors / panel ~1hr / live dj sets all night long (23:00!) Let Us Speak was founded on the principle that, in order to lower the barriers to protesting, individuals should be equipped with the legal knowledge and community support needed to exercise their rights, particularly the right to protest. After noticing how the lack of clarity and reliable information prevented people from feeling empowered, we began organising workshops and legal trainings to create a space where people could connect, share their experiences, and develop the tools needed to protest safely and effectively. This work eventually culminated in the self-publication of our protest handbook, a concise resource that summarised essential legal rules and scenarios people could easily refer to. To make the handbook more accessible and more widely used, this event will feature the launch of our Dutch translation.
