Biennale »Zeichen & Wunder«. Vladimir Jurowski und das Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin

Two works from the final phases of their composers' lives ask how an end can sound and what follows it, as part of the Biennale Zeichen & Wunder. Bernd Alois Zimmermann's "Stille und Umkehr" was created in 1970, shortly before his death. This sparse orchestral work features hammered dulcimer, accordion, and singing saw alongside traditional instruments, all centered on a single tone. Bruckner's Ninth Symphony begins from that same tone. His final completed movement, a thirty-minute Adagio, remains a testament to his unfinished finale. The performance features Vladimir Jurowski conducting the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin.
