A slow-burn orchestral night.
A performance exploring the fusion of minimalist repetition with religious plainchant and liturgical motives. The program features Henryk Górecki’s “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs,” a renowned classical work ranking on Billboard charts that sets three Polish laments to music. Arvo Pärt’s Second Symphony is also featured, a work incorporating children’s toys and elements of Tchaikovsky’s “Sweet Dreams” to signal a metaphorical rebirth. The evening opens with Pēteris Vasks’ Vēstījums (The Message), a composition vacillating between ominous foreboding and euphoric exaltation.
