An uplifting, nostalgic hard bop night.
Drummer and bandleader Akira Tana joins forces with the Osaka Quartet and powerhouse organist Atsuko Hashimoto for a soulful tribute to saxophone giant Jimmy Heath, Tana’s former mentor and bandleader. Tana brings deep swing, subtle color, and a personal connection to Heath’s musical legacy. With the Osaka Quartet’s tight ensemble sound and Hashimoto’s fiery Hammond organ, this celebration reimagines Heath’s tunes and related classics through grooving arrangements, blues-soaked solos, and spirited interplay.
