Muzikale verdieping van Murnau’s meesterwerk. Het veelzijdige talent van Olga Pashchenko is regelmatig te beluisteren in het Muziekgebouw. In een terugkerende samenwerking met samensteller en uitvoeringsspecialist Jed Wentz speelde zij eerder nieuwe pianoscores bij Nosferatu, Der Letzte Mann en Herr Tartüff van de invloedrijke filmregisseur Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. Ze vervolgen die reeks met Murnau’s Faust-verfilming, die dit jaar precies een eeuw oud is. De legende over de alchemist die in wanhoop een pact met de duivel sluit, neemt op het witte doek epische proporties aan dankzij vernuftige speciale effecten. Een compilatie van pianostukken uit verschillende stijlperiodes, naadloos aansluitend op de filmbeelden, maakt de onderdompeling compleet.
