A nostalgic, slow-burn renaissance night.
Konzerthaus Berlin, Gendarmenmarkt 2, 10117 Berlin, Germany
The Belgian vocal ensemble Graindelavoix, led by Björn Schmelzer, explores the psychological impact of early vocal music. Moving beyond conventional beauty, the eight singers use personal timbres to express subjective emotional states. Developed specifically for this festival, the "Per Monstra ad Astra" program traces the ancient concept of the music of the spheres from the Middle Ages to the late Renaissance. Featuring works by Guillaume de Machaut and Carlo Gesualdo, the performance illustrates how the cosmos has long been connected through irrationality, infinite variation, and expressive chromaticism rather than pure harmony.
