A fixture now for audiences both local and abroad, Yasmeen’s sound reflects the eclecticism and flair of music absorbed from her childhood: soul, jazz and the great lineage of Latin music, attained through her Venezuelan-Surinamese heritage. Though Yasmeen confronts subjects like depression, addiction, trauma and heartbreak with urgent specificity – her potent storytelling and musicianship always tunnels both herself and her audiences back into the brightest of lights.
