JEWISH SUMMER CAMP OF ROCK, which sounds made in a lab for me, but this isn’t very good
Genial throwback comedy presents Jewish teens and their experiences in a way that feels authentic and affectionate, wanting you to laugh with not at the characters. It's much more commercial than its limited release would suggest. In the Q&A, the producer defended the Israeli flags in it as being true to the setting. Nothing about the movie struck me as remotely controversial, so bringing it up was odd. This is the world of the story.
As an unabashed camp kid, THE FLOATERS was very well met. Entirely authentic in its depiction of the camp experience, even though I am not Jewish nor have I ever attended a Jewish summer camp. Jackie Tohn crushing it as always. Incredible supporting cast: Aya Cash, Steve Gutteberg, Jonathan Silverman, Judah Lewis, Jake Ryan, Seth Green, and a collection of remarkable young performers. And can we start the Sarah Podemski surge now please? It's about time! Doesn't reinvent the wheel, and isn't even trying to, but it's damned entertaining.
A struggling musician takes a job mentoring a group of misfit campers at her childhood Jewish summer camp, where they must band together to save the institution from a rival camp.
The film was directed by Rachel Israel, who released this character-driven comedy in 2026.
