Nicola Benedetti Plays Mendelssohn
Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti joins her frequent collaborator and the Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for an all-Mendelssohn program. The performance features Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, known for its melodic invention and captivating lyricism. The evening also includes Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony, a work inspired by the composer's travels through the rugged landscapes and ancient ruins of Scotland, unfolding as a continuous arc from brooding mystery to triumph. The program opens with Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, a piece inspired by Goethe that conjures a suspended stillness before surging forward with buoyant motion.
