The Mingus Big Band exclusively performs the compositions of the legendary American bassist and composer Charles Mingus. Established by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble brings to life complex arrangements in the large-band format that Mingus envisioned. The group serves as a platform for creative exploration and individual expression, mirroring the spirit of the original Jazz Workshop. Drawing from a rotating pool of New York City's top musical talent, the ensemble is recognized for its spontaneous and creative approach to jazz. With multiple Grammy nominations and a win for 'Live at Jazz Standard', the band maintains its storied legacy through their residency at The Pocket.
