Chopin’s First Piano Concerto with Hayato Sumino
Internet-famous virtuoso Hayato Sumino performs Chopin’s lush and poetic Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Reuniting with the orchestra after his 2025 Hollywood Bowl debut, the pianist, who rose to fame as a 2021 International Chopin Competition semi-finalist, brings his technical prowess and musical wit to this Romantic masterpiece. Chopin’s work, described by Sumino as sounding both perfectionist and improvisational, is paired with Mozart's Gran Partita serenade. Conducted by Louis Langrée, the Mozart program highlights the wind ensemble's blend of geniality and intricate grandeur, as noted by the New York Times.
