The Backfires

The Backfires are a New York City rock band originally formed in London in 2018. The band is comprised of lead singer and guitarist Alex Gomez, lead guitarist Harry Ruprecht, bassist Matt Walter, and drummer Dylan Spiro. Upon moving back to New York in January 2022, the band locked themselves in their midtown rehearsal space for six nights a week while they honed their live sound. Following a sold-out debut performance at Mercury Lounge in New York, the band began touring across the US supporting Silversun Pickups, Courteeners, Quarters, and The Mysterines. Their debut album This Is Not An Exit released January 24, 2025 and was followed by a 29-date North American headline tour. From there the band made their festival debut at The Governors Ball in 2025, followed by Let’s Go Festival (Annapolis, MD) and Innings Festival (Tempe, AZ). Building on their growing live momentum, the band returned to the studio crafting a Halloween themed covers EP, “Costume Party”, performed live to tape featuring songs by The Rolling Stones, The Marías, Oasis, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Continuing to write and record, the band has been diligently crafting their follow up album inspired by the counterculture of the 60s and 70s.
