Julija Hartig

Julija achieved widespread critical recognition with her 2022 debut CD, Dark Velvet: an autobiography in music, which was described as an “intriguing and thought-provoking musical journey” by Fanfare Magazine. This success culminated in her winning the prestigious EDISON KLASSIEK Prize in the Newcomer National category in October 2023. Her artistic curiosity has consistently led to inspiring collaborations with contemporary composers, resulting in several works being written for and premiered by her. She is now entering a new creative phase as a co-composer on the piece “Black Rainbow”, in collaboration with artist Akim Moiseenkov, which explores themes of identity and belonging. As a soloist, Julija has performed with numerous orchestras, including The Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic, the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Serbia, and the Chamber Orchestra Dusan Skovran. She has given recitals and chamber music concerts across Europe, Australia, and Brazil. A force in the contemporary music scene, Julija is an active member of the celebrated Duo Hartig-Broekhans and the acclaimed string octet Roctet. She is a founding member of Splendor Amsterdam and an initiator of the LUDWIG collective (GRAMMY winner in 2018).
