Francesco Tamburini

Italian cellist Francesco Tamburini is a 2024 Laureate of the Fondation Gautier Capuçon and recipient of the Stauffer Academy/Rotary Club Scholarship. Co-founder and co-director of the VIVACISSIMO Festival in Italy, he is invited at prestigious festivals such as Prussia Cove, Fontainebleau, the Cello Biennale Amsterdam, Ravinia, Schleswig-Holstein, Schiermonnikoog, Toronto Summer Music, Seiji Ozawa International Academy, Villars Music Academy, and NUME Academy. Keen chamber musician, Francesco has shared the stage with artists like V. Mullova, S. Accardo, T. Riebl, A. Grosz, H Winkelman among others. Currently pursuing a Master’s at the Musikhochschule Freiburg under Jean-Guihen Queyras, he earned an Artist Diploma at the Stauffer Academy with Antonio Meneses and a Bachelor of Music at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Giovanni Gnocchi. Passionate about historical performance, he studies baroque cello with C. Dangel and draws inspiration from mentors like S. Isserlis, S. Doane, G. Hoffman. In 2023, he stepped in for Sol Gabetta at the Museo del Violino in Cremona, performing with the Antonio Stradivari 'Stauffer - Ex Christiani'. He is also dedicated to contemporary music, collaborating with composers such as H. Lachenmann, A. Solbiati, S. Fontanelli. Upcoming highlights include a debut recital at the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg and recordings for Warner Classics/Erato and Naxos of America. Francesco plays a Giovanni Battista Grancino cello (1700).
