Ioana Iorgu

Ioana is an independent music producer, sound engineer, a self-taught guitarist and drummer. At the age of 14, while living in Malaysia, she was greatly inspired by her English teacher whom she played in a band with and introduced her to some of her formative records. Ioana released her first instrumental album Silent Scream with songs she composed in 2015 and after that produced another EP, the shoegaze saturated Fiction. After experimenting with ambient music, Ioana kicked off a new chapter by honing her sound further, employing dissonant guitar riffs and thumping drumbeats. In 2020 Ioana released her first single Suffocate, followed by Letters, which made it to number 1 on the IndieXL Radio indie chart, and later on Ritalin (part of her EP ‘Thick Skin’) climbed up on number 2 on the IndieXL radio while remaining number 1 on ThistleList. She has played on various Dutch as well as international stages, was part of the Grondslag musical trajectory and Popronde 2023 (selected as Nevermind the Hype talent act). All songs are written, recorded, and mixed by Ioana. Her fourth studio album, Fever Dream, is in the making. With chaos as an agent of comfort, there is a stinging desire for change. Ioana’s songs catch glimpses of the ordinary life, anxiety, grief, bitterness, and anger. The songs’ heavy primal instrumentation reveals unvarnished emotions and unspoken thoughts, directly contrasting Ioana’s soft tone, creating an intimate yet crushing feeling.
