A queer, underground punk rock artist.
NOTNORTH brings the drama back into music, letting expression eclipse perfection. Frontman David Alan Thornton engages with the universal themes of love, sex and mental health through personal imagery and one-of-a-kind melodies. The theatricality and intimacy of the songs suggest those of decades gone by but with new life and fresh perspective. It’s healthy to get a little dirty sometimes. DAT had planned a project to be recorded in March of 2020, but all collaborations stopped as the pandemic arrived. Forced to find fresh ways to create inspired the rebrand to NOTNORTH, a declaration of new paths and new directions. From the raw and whimsical production of "Living Feels", through the electric collaborations of "Night Candy", to the retrospective “I Want You", NOTNORTH continues to refine and redefine its voice. In 2022, NOTNORTH released Boys, an excavation of repression, blurred lines, and unasked questions. In 2023, a rock cover of ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! highlighted the desperate lyrics and sexual undertones of the song. In 2025, NOTNORTH released “Bodega Caviar” and officially welcomed Andrew O’Connor and Chris Lovejoy into the band.
