Marian Rosenfeld

Marian Rosenfeld delights audiences as much with her vitality and charisma as with her virtuosity and rich tone. Born into a family of musicians in Lucerne, she was only thirteen when she was accepted to join Homero Francesch’s masterclass at the Zurich College of Music. At the age of fourteen she gave her debut performance at the Tonhalle in Zurich. She received further important guidance from Bruno Canino, Radu Lupu and Bernard Greenhouse during her career, and was particularly influenced by multiple encounters with Andàs Schiff. To this day she remains the most successful Swiss person to have participated in Eurovision Young Musicians, having won the second prize in Copenhagen in 1986. More prizes and awards followed, including from the ARD International Music Competition and the International Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau, as well as grants from the Federation of Migros Cooperatives. Rosenfeld’s concert performances at leading European venues, including in Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, Berlin and London were complemented by invitations to record for various European radio stations. Inspiring meetings and collaborations with prominent artists, together with her own personal reflections, convinced her that music is a deeply human need, as well as a vessel in which can be found the great themes of all art forms, and indeed of humanity.
