Named after a card game, Doppelkopf are favorites in Germany's underground rap scene despite their scant discography. Rappers Falk and Thyes had spent time in the Hamburg rap group 6 Pac before breaking away and forming Doppelkopf with DJ and soundman Bubbles. Their debut single appeared in 1997 when the Hong Kong Recordings label released "Vom Mond." "Balance" landed two years later and was followed immediately by "Supa Stah," a hit single that caught the attention of EMI. The major label signed Doppelkopf and issued their debut album, Von Abseits, in 1999. While the group didn't officially break up, the bandmembers all began focusing on solo careers soon after the album's release. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi
