Energy 52
A polished, nostalgic trance artist.
Energy 52 is the brainchild of Paul Schmitz-Moorman (Berlin), who operated also under the moniker "DJ Kid Paul" and was one of the most popular DJs in early-'90s techno and house movement' in Germany. Collaborating with the likes of Harald Blüchel, who goes by the name "Cosmic Baby", and recorded by Jens Woinar at the Highlights Studio in Berlin, this project has produced some remarkable tracks starting 1991 with the "Eternity" and "State of Mind" EPs (both 1991). In 1993 Energy 52 unleashed a record onto an unsuspecting public that would go on to define club culture for an entire generation of dance music enthusiasts. Named as an homage to the legendary Ibiza sunset spot, Café Del Mar went on to become one of, if not the, decade's most popular trance anthems. In terms of cultural and emotional impact in dance music, it’s hard to find a record that comes close. Café Del Mar has come to represent the most euphoric and hedonistic pleasures of dancefloors - in Ibiza and all around the world - and has been remixed by some of the biggest names in the industry.
