Keith & Tex
A nostalgic early reggae artist.
Keith & Tex are a pioneering Jamaican rocksteady duo whose harmonies helped shape reggae’s foundation. Keith Rowe grew up in Washington Gardens, Saint Andrew—across from Lee “Scratch” Perry’s home—while Phillip “Texas” Dixon was raised in Pembroke Hall. After early rejections from top producers, the pair found success with Derrick Harriott, recording a string of late-1960s classics including “Stop That Train,” “Tonight,” “This Is My Song,” “Don’t Look Back,” and “Let Me Be the One.” Though they briefly separated in 1970, Keith & Tex reunited in the 1990s and have remained active ever since. Their music has influenced generations, with “Stop That Train” inspiring versions by Scotty and Big Youth. Since resuming worldwide touring in 2013, they’ve released acclaimed albums including Just Passing Through, Same Old Story, Freedom, One Life To Live, and Gun Life (2025), continuing to perform across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and beyond.
