An underground post-punk artist.
LIVE ALBUM OUT NOW Upcoming shows: 26th March - New River Studios 27th March - Nottingham The Angel 6th April - Old Blue Last Dura Mater are a groove focused, experimental collective formed while at the University of Nottingham and now based in London. Blending avant-garde jazz, funk, folk, and krautrock, the music channels these influences through a tight rhythm section, energized brass, jagged guitars, and violin textures processed through samplers. Dura Mater quickly established themselves in the Nottingham local scene, playing Dot To Dot Festival and opening for The Murder Capital, Geese, Folly Group, Man Woman Chainsaw, and Sundara Karma. They’ve quickly matured into a lean and mesmerising live act who are now playing gigs and festivals across the UK with headline London shows at The Windmill, George Tavern, Paper Dress Vintage, Venue MOT as well as shows abroad including France and The Netherlands. Author of Woo! Strange Happenings at the Windmill and Other Tangential Rants, Dave Thompson has said of the band: “I shall not attempt to explain the sound this band makes because it’s pretty much uncategorisable. But what I can say is their songs do not follow any of the usual rules, onstage they’re impossible to second guess, and each member appears unhinged. All of which make this band a powerful and visceral live experience.”
Dura Mater plays a unique blend of post-punk, avant-garde jazz, funk, and krautrock, known for their groove-focused sound and experimental approach.
