Johanna Summer invites listeners into a world where tradition breathes new life. She is developing a broad narrative, fearlessly crossing genres: sometimes delicate and fragile, sometimes full of tension, rhythmically gripping or irresistibly melodious. Her debut album Schumann Kaleidoskop (2020) reimagined Robert Schumann’s works through free improvisation and earned international critical acclaim. In 2023, she released Resonanzen, transforming music from Bach to Ligeti into vibrant, spontaneous interpretations. Piano colleague Igor Levit states: “Johanna is fantastic, simply an outstanding pianist. She is so focused, engaging with the original material so confidently and freely, yet maintaining her own tone all along”.
She blends classical music with jazz and free improvisation, often reinterpreting works by composers like Schumann and Bach on solo piano.
