Black Motion

Black Motion is a South African electronic duo known for blending house music with lively indigenous percussion as well as multilingual vocals with an array of guests from South Africa’s thriving dance music community. The duo’s 2011 debut Talking to the Drums established Black Motion as leading purveyors of the burgeoning South African house scene and over the coming years Black Motion found international success and support, charting a diverse course that held the pulse of the dance world while rooting itself in the myriad cultures of their native land with SAMA Award-winning albums Ya Badimo (2016) and The Healers: The Last Chapter (2020). Black Motion’s sound is best described as a nuanced interplay of ancestral traditions and global dance trends using electronic production and traditional live drums to put a deeply regional print on glistening nightclub grooves. Black Motion's SAMA winning 2020 album, a 41-track opus titled The Healers: The Last Chapter, reached across the continent for fresh ideas, unexpected connections and impeccable guest appearances. The band’s 7th album Rebirth of The Drum (2023) signalled the start of a new era for the Award winning duo with their latest 'The Cradle Of Art' expanding on Rebirth of The Drum’s groundwork.
