Accademia Bizantina
A nostalgic, polished baroque artist.
Interpreters of Baroque suggestion. Founded back in 1983 in Bagnacavallo, in the province of Ravenna, by four talented conservatory classmates, Accademia Bizantina is now an orchestra that boasts a rich discography, national and international awards and collaborations. Its unique stylistic signature lies in a distinctive interpretive method developed by Ottavio Dantone, conductor since 1996, investigating the ancient scores of George Frideric Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, Henry Purcell, Johann Sebastian Bach, and many other 17th- and 18th-century composers with awareness of the unwritten performance canons of the time, in order to reconstruct their unwritten suggestions and return to today's audiences the composer's intent, the sonorities he imagined, the effects he sought, the emotions and atmospheres he wanted to offer us: ultimately, the authentic and exciting sound of Baroque music in all of its original expressiveness. Thanks to the professionalism and passion of outstanding musicians from all over the world, including the prestigious violin of Alessandro Tampieri, concertmaster since 2011, Accademia Bizantina restores to the music its original vivacity, communicativeness, and immediacy. Accademia Bizantina has recorded for Decca, Harmonia Mundi, Deutsche Grammophon, Naïve, Alpha, Onyx, HDB Sonus. Particularly significant are the collaborations undertaken with violinists Viktoria Mullova and Giuliano Carmignola, countertenor Andreas Scholl and contralto Delphine Galou.
