Stevo Atambire
A homegrown, mainstream afro house artist.
Stevo Atambire is an award-winning neo-griot touring artiste from the Upper East of Ghana. Stevo is a well established house-hold name in Ghana especially among the Frafra community. Stevo's powerful vocals have made him a favorite of electronic music producers/deejays worldwide like Ahmed Spins and Mo Black with one of their songs, Anchor Point, being a global dancefloor hit. Stevo is a master of the kologo, a 2-stringed calabash lute predating the banjo, that is strummed intensely and percussively and is accompanied by his powerful ethereal singing that sends listeners into deep thoughts, a trance, or energetic dancing. Stevo currently has a project called “Kologo” with his neo-traditional project Alostmen, produced by Wanlov the Kubolor out on Koool Kreol/Strut Records. He also has a Swiss-based musical project called Stevo Atambire & the World Citizen. Stevo is heavily featured on an album called “Still Flying” by Benjamin Lazar Davis & Bridget Kearney out on Verve Forecast. Stevo has two yearly music festivals “Saa Woo” and “NYNT” (New Year New Tradition) Festival. One is hosted in Bolgatanga and the other in his hometown called Nayorigo. Musicians from all over Ghana as well as international acts have come to grace these events. Both festivals are 6 years running. Stevo is currently working on 3 albums, one with the World Citizen, another with USA based Colter Jesse Harper, and a joint album with Wanlov the Kubolor.
