Goran Stevanovich

An underground minimalism artist.

Tracks5

Like hardly anyone else, Goran Stevanovich has succeeded in establishing the accordion on concert stages outside the usual repertoire, ranging from early music, Schubert, Bruckner, Mahler and Hindemith to contemporary composers. His extraordinarily broad repertoire and versatile musical skills have allowed him to develop his own unique sound aesthetic and style over the years. He has already thrilled audiences several times in world premieres and innovative concert formats, as well as won prizes of national and international competitions (China, USA, Spain), including the German Accordion Music Prize 2012. Born and raised in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he picked up the accordion for the first time as a child – the instrument being firmly anchored in the SEVDAH – folk music of his home country. For his studies, he moved to Hannover, where he completed his concert exam in 2018 as part of the “Meisterstück” series at HMTM and is now a lecturer at this institution. For his debut album ‘Sarajevo’, the Hanover-based artist has selected works by composers such as Max Richter, Béla Bartók and Bryce Dessner, that all have a connection to the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina and its eventful history. These works are complemented by four of Stevanovich's own compositions (‘Der Asra’, ‘Bartók reframed’, ‘Takht’, ‘Kad ja podjoh’), reflecting the theme and musical tradition of his homeland.
