Makis Dimakis was born in Germany on June 18, 1971, and moved with his family to Thessaloniki at the age of five, though his roots trace back to Eptalofos. Growing up surrounded by music, he first played the bouzouki before stepping into the spotlight as a singer. He began performing in Thessaloniki venues in the late 1980s and soon expanded to Athens, where, at 22, he collaborated with Giorgos Alkaios—co-writing songs such as “Kapse Me” (1995) and “Thelo Na Klapso” (1996). Over the years, he also contributed backing vocals to albums by well-known artists, including Sofia Arvaniti’s “Kokkini Klosti.” Returning to Northern Greece, Dimakis built a strong career with countless live shows across the country. Three years ago, he headlined Athens’ iconic Botanicos, solidifying his reputation as a top name in Greek music. His breakthrough came in 2011 with the hit “Kaneis Den Einai Kanenos”, penned by lyricist Argyris Arapis and composer Michalis Touratzidis, followed by songs like “Anisychisa”, “Poso Pono”, “Psyxologika”, “Tama”, and “Den To Epitrepo.” These tracks became staples on Greek radio and cemented his place in the laïko scene. Though his real name is Dimos Sirlakidis, the stage name “Makis Dimakis” was coined on stage by singer Mariώ and has stayed with him ever since. With over three decades in the industry, he remains one of the most dynamic voices of modern Greek popular music.
