Dal:um
An underground experimental artist.
*dal:um DAL:UM is a duo based in Seoul, performing Korea's most well-known traditional string instruments: the Gayageum(Ha Suyean) and the Geomungo(Hwang Hyeyoung). They released their first album, 'Similar and Different', on Glitterbeat's label imprint Tak:til and made their UK debut at the K-Music Festival in 2021 as part of a highly successful tour across the UK and the Nordic. Despite their apparent similarity, the Gayageum and Geomungo are surprisingly different in structure, playing techniques, and tone. Since their debut in 2018, DAL:UM has challenged the traditional sounds of these instruments, freely reforming and modernizing their sonic possibilities through their interpretation. ** 2022 Songlines Music Awards nominated ** ’Extracting intricate and experimental compositions from stringed folk instruments the Gayageum and Geomungo’ THE GUARDIAN ** ’An astonishing performance’ UNCUT 2021 1st album (Glitterbeats Record) 2021,2022 Invited as Yeowoorak Festival (National Theatre in Korea) 2021,2022 Three European Tours of 35 cities in 7 countries (Southbanks Center, Barbican Centre in UK, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Italy, Slovenia and Germany) 2021,2022 BBC radio 3’s ‘Music Planet’, ‘ In Tune’ 2022 Songlines Music Awards nominated 2022 SXSW Official Showcase
